How should i prepare if i want to go back into ballet in january?

i was in dance for 8 years then i quit for 2, and now i want to go back but im a little out of shape, my ankles and core arent very strong anymore.. but im still very flexible. what are somet things i should do to get ahead of the game in this? good excersizes you use that payoff in dance?

Practice some of the stuff you remember from your classes, at home. Try some yoga/pilates dvds (beginners if you haven't done it before) at home or join a class.. if you do that 3 or 4 days a week it will get you into shape quickly. Try an exercise/yoga ball for core strength, most come with exercise charts and are great for that little extra something. Also try walking.. whether it be on a treadmill or just around your neighborhood, it will be of great benefit.

Walk on your tippey toes a lot!
lots of crunches and deep knee bends. Do some streatching everyday. Walk on the treadmill to build your endurance. GOOD LUCK!
Every day before you shower (be it morning or night), do some stretching. Basic stuff.... pliees, tondues, portebras, splits. Also do a little bit of workout to get into shape again... crunches, lunges and pulses will work. And, if you dance on pointe, do releves and borees as well. Have fun!
do some stretching every day, and then tons of releves. :)
releves and plies - lots of them at least 200 releves/day....yes I am serious.....work to keep your flexibility
do lots of releve passes on each leg, about sixteen each, repeat a couple times, treads, plies, grande plies, stuff like that for your legs. I also suggest you run a lot, and if you do pointe classes, which I suggest you do, do them in SLIPPERS for a month or two before you go back on pointe; if you have dead pointe shoes, it would make your feet strong to dance in them, but don't go on pointe, just go on three-quarter pointe.

For the core, do sit-ups, and lots of them. If you really feel the burn, then you're on the right track. also go in kind of a push-up position, but just on your forearms; this helps strengthen your stomach muscles and your arms. also take pilates mat classes and ask your dance teacher for advice.

For the arms, lift some weights, and do a couple push-ups every night. also some pull- ups; if you can't do "full- length" push ups, go on your knees, or use the wall. if your parents freak out every time you touch the wall, do it in secret, and clean the wall off every now and then. ; )

If you're sore at first, DON'T STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING. Keep going and it'll go away after a couple of weeks. Also take hot baths and ask ppl to give you messages (optional). be sure to ask someone you're comfortable with, and be sure they're comfortable too. You don't have to do this though, so don't worry. also stretch a lot, this will reduce soreness.

Good luck! = ]
You need a floor mounted Ballet Bar. And you need to use it every day. Just do the routine bar exercises. These have proved overtime to be the best thing to strengthen the feet and ankles. Do not try to get ahead of the game. Just be consistant in your practice. Take class if you can, good dancers, even in companies, still take class every day.
